Default Looking for a little guidance/suggestions

As I' sure most newcommers to this hobby do, I have spent a few hours reading and reading, and reading...............trying to absorbe as much info as possible, I've aquired some basswood and have tried a few small carvings and can see many enjoyable hours ahead of me when I find my "niche".......
I would like to try my hand at caricature carving, so I'll be needing a good refrence book, but when I go to the Fox Chapel Publishing site there's so many books available I just can't make up my mind (and I can't afford them all ) I need something basic, that will give me step by step info and pictures, not something that is written for the accomplished carver (hopefully that will come later) Is there one that would be say similar to the Tutorial Santa Study Stick by Thomp? I found this to be very helpful, but would like something in book form, because I do my carving in the basement and my computer is in the diningroom, and Mrs. Soggy is not keen on chips in the diningroom.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thanks; Wayne

Look at any of the books from Pete LeClair, in my opinion, there are none better for Caricatures.

I agree with BobT 100%. I bought these books almost a year ago, and feel I'm now ready to try my hand at some of them, he has 2 excellent books and maybe more but I have 2 of them and they take you thru cut by cut. BobT, I'm using the little favor you did for me, thanks again.

Do yourself a favor though, if you get Pete's books. Take them somewhere like Kinko's or the like, and have them punched and spiral bound. They will lay nice and flat. They are NOT Fox Chapel and the binding falls apart in a hurry. Great Books by a Great Teached, just cheapo binding.

Hey Mr. Soggy... Thre's plenty of material for free right on the internet. All you need to do is print out the pages and put them in a notebook. I started out with a 1/2" binder and I'm up to one that's 4" thick and overloaded... Sometimes you can save the pictures to your hard drive and then import them and the captions to a program like Word or Publisher. It takes a little more time but you can't beat the cost! After you've tried your hand at a few of the freebies you'll have a better idea of what you really want to spend your money on.

Thanks Eddy S. That's a good idea also. I've done that on a limited bases in the past. Haven't got the greatest printer in the world but it will do in a pinch
