| | Re: Looking for a little guidance/suggestions soggy,
i found Pete leclair, Herold Enlow and tom wolf books a great help, the early books do lots for the beginner, they start in most books on how to sharpen your tools
to keep costs down keep an eye out on eBay for used books, half bay and amazon.com .. have books at low prices, used books are a little ratty but the info is still relevant, |

| | Re: Looking for a little guidance/suggestions Thanks to all for your advice/suggestions. I'll spend some time this weekend looking into the various authors, and then try to locate one of their books. I got no bookstores close (that's the price we pay for living out in the boonies) I'll see what I can come up with on line.

E.J Tangerman was a great carver, author. I started with his book Whittling and Woodcarving, or so 19yrs ago and I collect any of his books I can get ahold of...Whittling and woodcarving should be still available through used booksellers such as Amazon..or check your local library..I get library loans for free as to hold and copy the information i want for several weeks as long as I am a member. I know you stated you have been reading alot, you can never know too much, also join the nearest club near you. Rub elbows with people with like interests. Keep your eyes peeled for woodcarving shows in your area or look up festivals in your area, you should be able to search and find local clubs that are a wealth of information that you cant always read in a book.

| | Re: Looking for a little guidance/suggestions all good advice, another book I personally liked was carving eggheads by Mary Finn. Mainly because she has you carving study sticks for eyes, then nose, then mouth. I also carved my own eggs from a block of basswood. I don't do it much anymore as I carve mostly little guys
Perhaps you can check these out through inter-library loan | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
