My local parks and rec office is offering a carving class for $90. It's a 2 hour class held one evening a week for eight weeks. It states: "Learn the most commonly used techniques, work on a small but detailed project and gain the confidence to tackle more intricate carvings. A basic carving kit is included at registration. Class limited to ten." I've never taken a class but wonder what you folks think about cost vs. details? They do give the carvers name, but I can't find much on a search. Sorry if this isn't where this thread should be posted...couldn't find another appropriate forum. Thanks for any thoughts.... |

If I had the time and the $90 I would probably take the class. I am of the belief (and experience bears this out) that there is nothing more instructive than working with and around other woodcarvers. My vote is go for it. |

See if they have a sample of the carver's work, and if you like it, I'd take the class. It is a great way to meet some carvers in your area, along with learning new techniques. Tom

I've sponsored five seminars here for visiting carvers. That is a good price. Figure over 8 weeks thats 16 hours or the equivilent of a two day class. The price for a two day class usually runs up to twice that amount. Go for it!

Sounds like fun and a great deal. I bet you will have more fun and make some great new friends. I did a class a few years ago we carved a 6” cowboy not my normal thing but I had a blast.
