I have a 1 inch carving knife that I recieved from a carver in Custer State Park. I want too purchase a longer knife such as 1 1/2 or 1 7/8 from Little Scaevaers as well as a strop. Would it be a good idea to buy the beginner kit which includes a strop, murphy bench knife, 6 palmtools ( Not sure the sizes), a glove, and thumbgard or to just buy a knife and strop?

It's "Little Shavers", and yes - buy the kit. It's a good deal. Also spend some time on his site - especially the section on sharpening. |

I agree. When just starting out, it's easiest to get a kit from someone reliable like Rick at Little Shavers. That way you get all of the basics you need to start. Donna_T
