Just finished this tree, I hollowed out the inside so a candle can go in it. Anybody know what kind of wood it is? |

Great tree well done . Heres a thought Maybe if you get one of those small keychain flashlights and sit that under the tree rather than a candle? Cheers AL |

I used one of those little tea candles, they are a small flame. I let one burn in there for bout 15 minutes, and then checked it, it was not hot at all. I looked around for some kind of fire proof paint or something, and had no luck. I think it will be fine, but I blow out candles if I leave the room even for a second! Better safe than sorry! |

Try Flameless tea lights. I think Walmart has them. Also the Dollar Store. Here is a link to give you an idea what is available. Flameless Tea Lights with LED run on Batteries and Flicker Doug |

Yes, I really wouldn't mix fire and wood, especially when the fire is "hidden" so to speak - much to easy to forget. I use tea light candles to start fires. 15 minute test isn't long enough, and what if the candle flame flares higher than you would ever expect? (sorry if I'm preaching to the Choir on this. LOL) How about those little multi-colored flashing tea-light LED thingies already suggested? That would look really super with different color lights blinking inside it. :-) Last edited by ABitoSlo; 12-11-2011 at 09:44 AM. Reason: typeo |
