I have done a couple of light houses using cotton wood bark and they came out real nice. The rough texture of the bark gives the light house a weathered look on the house and it gives the land it sits on a rocky look like you find where a house would sit. Sorry I don't have any pictures as I sold the ones I carved. As you probably guessed the light house done with bark is more or less a relief carving because you don't find bark thick enough. You can carve widows and a light at the top and use a technique similar to carving gnome homes to make the windows show depth.

Thanks Don and I do have a mental picture of how it could look. I have seen bark carvings and do like the looks of them. Sure wish you had pictures of yours. I have woodburned and oil painted a fair number of lighthouses and have a good "feel" for the designs.......but need to practice on some basswood before butchering the bark
