Default Laying out a pattern

Perhaps I should have been more specific with the subject title, but here goes.
When you have a pattern to lay out on your block of wood, there is one thing you should always consider.
Which side of the block should the nose or other projections be on? Â*

Wood is not a homogeneous mass, it has direction and character. It is always a good idea to match your block to your design. Â*

Looking at the end of your block, (if necessary, make a clean cut across it so you can see the grain) you should see either a circular pattern or nearly straight grain lines across it.

Where the lines exit the block, is the side where a nose or other projection should be located. Â*(Normally you have a choice of two good sides.)
This will give the feature the most strength.

I hope this is clear to everyone, if not just holler.
