Default Laying out a grenn man/cat pattern

I've been commissioned to do a couple of green men from Lora Iris & co's book Woodspirits and Green Men. I did protest my ignorance of relief work in general and green men in particularbut the 2 people were unfazed, both saying they just wanted me to do my best and that'd do them.

So here I am, with a green cat (page 58) and an oak green man (my choice from the book) to do. What's worrying me most right now is working out depths. I know from Loras site that she numbers them but I'm having trouble working out which things should be on the same depth. Can anyone give me a hand here? Also, for those who have the book, what do you think the easiest oak green man will be to do? It has to feature oak, but the design has been left to me - scary!
