Excellent job, Dennis, looks like there's a lot of happy little carvers there. It looks like you had a blast doing it. Keep the chips (soap flakes) flying.

I finally opened my tool box after 15 years in storage. My 9 year old is really interested but I didn't know how to start. After all, I started when I was about 9, and that's where I got most of my stitches from... I love the idea of soap or potatos, but how do you make kid safe tools. Can you post a photo?

I took a piece of plexiglass, cut it to look like my carving knife and used a belt grinder to put an edge on it sharp enough not to cut skin, but sharp enough for soap. My daughter is 12 and she used it to carve her some soap animals for the bathroom...
