| | Just a reminder - safety Just wanted to remind everyone that they should never cut toward themselves. I gave myself another reminder last week. It was a hospital bill and 6 stitches in two different fingers. All is well and i finished the carving two days after. Whomever gets this christmas carving had better appreciate it. |

| | Re: Just a reminder - safety Actually, you can carve toward yourself - just be controlled in your technique.
Use your wrist and/or hand motion....not your arm to power the movement of the knife or gouge.
Same when carving away from yourself....don't use your arm to control the knife, use your hand and wrist.
AND WEAR A GLOVE. A thumb guard is suggested when cutting towards yourself. |

| | Re: Just a reminder - safety Hey, I do a lot of carvin "towards" meself. But I always use the thumb on the wood holding hand as a stop against the thumb on the knife holing hand. And I ware a glove and wimp wrap around fingers and thumb on other hand. That is, unless I'm whittlin at the doctors office, in which case I am already there, when needed. Tom H |

| | Re: Just a reminder - safety No, no glove, and I realize that you can safely cut toward yourself. I just wasn't thinking and tried to take too big of a cut and ended up taking a bigger cut out of my finger. Again, just a reminder, carve safely and slowly. Don't rush. |
