Roxi, regarding those pinewood kits....they come with wheels and axle nails but have no material for fenders etc. What we've done with the Cub Scout projects is to get some 1/2" sugar pine or white pine boards and draw the vehicle profile onto them, using the kit block as a guide as to where to cut the wheel wells. Once they are either scroll sawed or coping sawed into shape, they are glued and clamped to the body block. Once you get this stage, carving most any car at all is pretty straight forward.
