I am rather new to carving. I have taken a few classes and need some help on a relief carving project I would like to do. I am looking for patterns or instructions on how to carve a simple pine tree. I want to do a mountain scene on a board for the back of a bench. Any suggestions from anyone on how to get started would be greatly appreciated.

I don't mean to be picky, but I will be anyway......Do you want a pine tree or a spruce? Spruce are the typical conical christmas tree type, and I believe Susan (L.S. Irish) has a tutorial on carving a scene with one of these, although she calls it a "pine". Pines are tall slender guys with only high branches clustering near the top. You may be able to get a good pine pattern from Fred Stenman. I don't know if he has one all done up, but I'm sure if you contact him he will get the pine pattern for you. www.stenmanstudios.com Al |
