Default Intro/ Looking for teacher in Florida

Hello, new carver here. I am in West Central Florida and am hoping to find an expert carver to get some one-on-one instruction (not a club). So far I'm self taught, learning from a few books and I'm slowly adding tools as i can afford. So if anyone knows of a carver in my area who might give some instruction, please let me know.
Thanks, Dan

Not sure of a prof. carver in those parts. There is a 2 day roundup that usually has 7-8 classes from top prof. carvers like the bishops. Is in Suwannee in the spring I think???

Greg

Not a lot of help, sorry!

Dan,

Have you checked the link for Clubs in FL? You said "no clubs" but if you at least meet the one(s) in your area, I am sure there is someone there willing to work with you 1-on-1 ?? Just an idea...

Hi everyone, Thanks for the replies. I didn't know about the 2 day roundup. I would certainly like to go. Is there a bulliten board that announces seminars like the one mentioned? I did email the local club but didn't get a response in regard to my inquiry about instruction. If I don't find someone for one on one instruction, I'll be ok I'm sure. With this board and its experts and info and all the books and websites I should be able to get the info I need.
I've started with deep relief with a 4"x10"x24" piece of basswood. If I can get a decent photo maybe I can get some tips.
Thanks very much for the advise!
Dan

Hey Dan,
You might also check with your local senior centers or retierment villages, i know there's alot of them down there, and see if they have something like spit and whittles. I got in with a local senior center myself and am learning from thier expirence, and boy do i have alot to learn from those guys. You might even go as far as posting on the senior centers bulleten board for carvers to help you, most seniors would jump at the chance to teach the younger generations.

Not that ya'll are seniors, i'm just too young...LOL!

Just a few ideas.
