Default If you were to be exiled on a Island

Since I am a beginner at wood carving, and faced with a ton of questions, I would like to pose the following question. If your were to be exiled on an Island and were given the following choices, what would they be.
1. What tree species would make up the bulk of the forest?
2. You are limited to taking three carving knives with you, what would they be and what brand would they be?
3. You are also limited to a 6 piece carving tool set. What set would you chose?
4. What type of carving would make up the majority of your work?
Just thought I would through that out. By the way there is no electricity available on the Island.
Thanks
Keith

Anything that could be cut and had grown to at least 100 feet tall and 3 feet in diameter
2. You are limited to taking three carving knives with you, what would they be and what brand would they be?
Flexcut carving knife, Standard full-sized axe, Standard adz.
3. You are also limited to a 6 piece carving tool set. What set would you chose?
Flexcut starter set
4. What type of carving would make up the majority of your work?
1: making myself a shelter
2: making myself a dugout canoe with mast and outriggers (for escape off the darn island)

Just thought I would through that out. By the way there is no electricity available on the Island.
Thanks
Keith
The flexcut carving tools would be to make myself some bowls, spoons, forks, etc.

Claude

I am not sure I would want just knives as it would take a while to cut down the trees with just 3 knives and a 6 piece set of gouges, but the wood would be basswood, the knives, my Helvie rough out, Denny detail and a Flexcut detailer. The set would be Denny's or Flexcut, and Be stranded with Carrie Underwood, Beautifull gal, Sings pretty, and pleasing to look out. heheheheheheheh. Just a down to earth, beautiful Okie Gal.

I forgot to mention. You were already given the companion of your choice and all the requirements for living were supplied. These selections only pertain to your wood carving addiction.

1. Basswood
2. Roselli Carpenter
Modified Swiss Army Knife (See Chris Lubkemann)
Modified Kershaw Double Cross (See Little Shavers)
3. Little Shavers Starter Set
4. Not sure I'd carve much of anything, but would be a whittlin fool.
5. All the requirements were met. Does that include an adequate supply of beer? If so, Shiner Bock please.

Roughing, Carving, and Detail handmade razor knives

Pfeil palm set

Outrigger Canoe

Just thought I would throw that out. By the way there is no electricity available on the Island.
Then I'm not going.

Thanks
Keith

I would give up two of my knives for electricity.

2. You are limited to taking three carving knives with you, what would they be and what brand would they be? Quackwood 3/4" detail, Quackwood 1 1/2" #9, and a Ashley Isles hooked skew.

3. You are also limited to a 6 piece carving tool set. What set would you chose? Pfiel full size set (#1 Fishtail 14mm, #3 fishtail 14mm, #5 Fishtail 14mm, #7 fishtail 14mm, #11 veiner 4mm, and a 8mm V tool)

4. What type of carving would make up the majority of your work? First I'd carve some carcaratures for someone to talk to , ....... then I'd carve my idea of a "perfect woman" .... for companionship, Then I'd carve all the ships I'd ever dreamed of carving, cause I'd have the time to do it! I wouldn't make a boat to escape on ..... cause I wouldn't want to leave! Sounds perfect to me!!! When can I go? Talking
I like the idea, I like islands, as long as they are warm and uninhabited.

Bob

I'm still on that island I was on the last time this same question was asked.

Sorry Bob, this island is just off the coast of Tierra del Fuego and it's January!

I appreciate the info. I decided on a Pfiel chip carving knife, and a starter set from little shavers. When I really get hooked I will have to make a decision on the better kits or buying them one at a time. Flexcut and Pfiel seem to be the choice of most around here I think. I do have a question, what model of Swiss carving knife and how modified?
Thanks again guys,
Keith
