You did a first class job.That carving will look very good on the wall.Are you going to paint it or just clear spray it?

Nice scales... I'm impressed! I carved a snake cane and burned on the scales. The carving would have been a lot nicer if they had stood out like yours do!

That is the final finish. I just used some shellac and then some briwax. Not ready to try painting yet.

I saw those gold fish on her sight and I thought they were great too. I actually thought about getting some live gold fish to take pictures of and try my hand at drawing them.

RussL. is right about grain switching directions on you. You would think that the grain on a board would be all running the same way but it doesn't. As soon as the gouge starts to dig and splinter the wood, carve it from the opposite direction and see if it doesn't go back to smooth again, but also, sharp tools are a must. A tool isn't sharp until it cuts cross grain smoothly....
