Getting started is the easy part , stopping well thats another mater. To get started you really don't need a lot. A knife a piece of wood and a glove will get you started. But an excellent learning spot is http://www.carvingpatterns.com/
Very detailed placed to atart the learning process. As for knives and tools Littleshavers. com is a very good place to find starting sets.
As for questions this is the right spot.
hope this helps

| | Re: Hey I need some help to get started Welcome Bamboo 85, you've come to the best place for carving advice and friendship (I know that from experience!) and found one of the best people to supply you with just what you need to get started, also known from experience! Have fun, be careful, if you don't order the starter kit from Rick then just be sure you buy a carving glove and thumbguard....hmmmm, also learned that one from experience, learned it the hard way! ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) Again, Welcome! | | Re: Hey I need some help to get started Welcome Bamboo,
What they all said....ditto. We're so glad to have you join our little carving family. If you will give us an idea of the specific part of the country you're calling home, we'll try to direct you to a carving club or supplier or classes nearest to you.
You CAN learn to carve by yourself--with just books--but you'll learn much faster and have way more fun if you can find someone to carve with--either a club or another carver.
Til then, stop by here often and read lots of the old postings and you'll learn all kinds of good hints and tips that will help your carving attempts. It's addictive, it's therapeutic, it's frustrating, it's fun, and it's very satisfying.
