| | Re: Hey grab a Kevlar glove and finger protection,
or a food serving glove with the wire mesh vinal coated make up, and some quilting leather elastic finger and thumb protectors from the sewing center,, sports wrap is a alternative for finger protection,,
its a great way to keep carving and minimize serious cuts,,
Theres lots of beginners projects in coloring books,
select the book according to your preference,
beginners have troubles with lack of tools,
for the easy projects you can obtain some 1x24x1/2 " pine, or popular from lowes or home improvement store, while there pickup a hand type coping saw,
at home scan in pages from color book, or cut out the pattern and trace it on the wood.
or use spray adhesive and stick the pattern on the wood,. and cut it out
,or just sketch the simple outline, cut out the outline with coping saw and finish drawing the rest of the way on the cutout..
now take your knife and remove chips where necessary to make the item more realistic, a little relief , , paint it with craft paints and drill a hole for a string,
appropriate coloring books will produce Christmas ornaments or things to make mobiles for child's rooms,
its a way to get practice for little cost,,.
pine wood is something you should have available, locally but i find Northern basswood the best for carving i have tried,
other species are fine as well but hard for me to get,
i order my basswood from online..
good luck.
read as much as you can here on the board, research the older posts in the archives, about subjects your interested in the information is relevant whether the material or products may be outdated, carving is carving, it don't change, |
