| | Help needed - inside corners I'm having trouble getting into the inside corners like under her chin. The knife I have just can't get in there. It's the knife that comes in the littleshavers kit. - What would be a tool the would help? Some sort of palm tool, special knife?
I do know I need a detail knife to finish this carving can anyone help me pick one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Marty |

| | Re: Help needed the knife has the blade wrong direction for this, i would try a rather flat gouge, like a number 2, in a small width. i had such areas with mary poppins a lot, and mostly i used number 2 gouges, and sometimes a skew chisel, since that gives again another angle from the cutting edge to the handle... |

| | Re: Help needed Marty, I think you could get away without going all the way through...but if you have too, a fish tail gouge with a low sweep might be thin enough to work away the wood.

| | Re: Help needed Try Ashley Iles tools suppliers - they have one in the US. Ashley Iles has a really wide selection of carving gouges. Here's one link that should help. http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/i...did=IT-CONG.XX

| | Re: Help needed Those Pfeil gouges are great too, I have a few - they come from the factory polished, so a beginner knows what kind of condition they need to be for carving - it was very useful for me. If I remember right, Pfeil and Ashley Iles are about the same hardness. Iles might be a bit more expensive. Hard to tell if there is any difference in quality - Iles promises a lifetime warranty for workmanship though.
I use hot-melt glue instead of clamping, if the carving is not very rough going. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
