Question Help First Project

Hi everyone this is my first time carving wood and I am going to make a pair of headphones for myself. I wanted to make the case for the speaker out of wood.
I have no idea about how to go about this and what tools i will need and what type of wood.

Here is a picture of what i basically want to carve (the wood part):


For the wood I would like something that looks like this:


Please help I am a beginner in need!

Walnut.

Not sure that you need to 'carve' them exactly. A router or shaper and sanding would be the easiest way to make them.

Maybe a wood lathe. It will be hard to do the wires though. LOL.

CappedHaddock; (Love the name) I came across this wood that looks pretty close. It's really a class look. Hope this gets you on the right track for the wood. Now you have to find out how workable it is to determine the tools/technique to use. I really want to see this project when finished. Please post pics?
