I read a suggestion, I think it was on this website, to use a piece of thin clear plastic like that used on an overhead projector and copy your pattern on to that. You can then just flip the film over and rub over the image and it will transfer right onto your wood. I haven't tried it yet but I'll bet it will work.

Oh... I misunderstood - I cut carbon paper into strips, slip it under my taped pattern at the part where I am drawing, then move it under the next part to draw. Very unlikely to come across a completely depleted part of carbon paper. I start tearing the paper before it runs out of marking stuff, usually.

This is what I do. I line up the patern on the wood then keep it in place with push pins. After that is done, I slide the carbon paper into place. There have been a few times where I have put paper in upside down. Then I have to trace it again. Has anybody else done that? Carl

I make a template (or series of templates) out of thin carboard or plastic then just place them on the wood and trace around them. No muss, no fuss, no carbon paper. For my ornaments I make a two sided template that can be folded over a 1X1 block, traced, then slid down to mark the next.

I use carbon paper.....two small piece of tape does not hold it on. Get the blue scotch tape. First tape the top of you picture onto your wood....now fold the edges of the paper down, wrapping the block of wood.... with sharp lines to see if you are off center and all the pic is on the wood. Next gentle, pull the whole paper up....but not the top. You slide your carbon face down on your block....now repeat the process, like wrapping a present. Fold all pieces down....and then you tape to secure. Making sure that carbon plus you pattern does not move. Then do your transfer work. If you are careful ...you can take the tape off with out tearing your paper pattern. But you should have copies of your pattern at least three of them. One for your master copy, one for your transfer, and the last one for your cardboard if you make a cut out.
