Good evening..I am new to your forum and hope that I am posting this in the correct area. I am not new to carving but am far from an expert like most of you. To show this..I am having a terrible time with sanding sleeves. When I use the smaller sleeves like for a drumal tool they come off..so I bought a foredom 1/4 in holder and sleeves and daggone if they don't fly off or go down on the stem..what am I doing wrong.. Hey Swampy, are you tightening the small screw that is in the center of the rubber that the sleeve goes over? If so you might put a small washer on each end, this expands the rubber after you put the sleeve on and should never come off. Hope this is what you were asking about. Merle

you may alos be cutting the paper too long try a shorter length and if you have access to " cloth back paper" it will hold up better at high speeds. you may have to order it online I finally had to seems no one carried the stuff anymore this company carries it Call them and ask for Dallas he is pretty helpful I think they are closed Mondays though Wood Carving Tools - Texas - The Old Texas Woodcarvers Shop, Tools, Books, Classes</span>

Hi, Swampy - welcome to the forum. As Merle says, take a small screwdriver and tighten that little screw on the end of the shaft. When it's tight, it makes the rubber bulge out in the center and hold the sleeve very tight. When you need to replace the sleeve, loosen the screw until the sleeve slides off, put on a new one, and retighten. Claude |

Some drums have a knurled collar behind the drum for expanding the rubber also.
