Question Have a question on on a carving I want to start ?
Hi Gang,
I always get help for us newbies with dumb ?'s Have a carving I want to start it's 3"high by 3" wide , how do I determine the width its a chicken for a gift

Do you mean depth? 3 inches high from top of comb to bottom of foot, 3 inches wide from beak to tail?? If so, then I'd start with a depth (shoulder to shoulder) of 2 inches, and after I got the thing sawed out, look at it and see if the depth is still correct. I started to say you should begin with it 1.5 inches from shoulder to shoulder, but it's better to start too thick and have to remove some extra wood, than to start to thin and end up with a piece of firewood.
