Bill, I think it is too dark and heavy...unless you didn't wipe it off well.

I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the look on the wood spirit BUT I think it looks terrific on the owl. It gives it a nice textured look, like it almost simulates feathers. Maybe I like it on the owl better because I think of owls as being reasonably dark?

I don't think they are too dark but I think maybe the face on the woodspirit is too bright in contrast.

Nomad, Thanks I did forget the place wrinkles on the forehead. I believe that would darken the forehead? I appreciate taking time to post Bill

they look pretty good to me, Bill

are the cheeks rougher (texture) than the forehead ? that might explain why the cheeks appear a shade or two darker than the forehead. it might also be because they are surrounded by proud surfaces, and therefore harder to wipe off than the forehead

the darkened recesses in the beard really make the lighter 'strands' of the hair really pop out. the top of the figure seem to have less contrast - looking at the picture, anyway. that could probably be modified, if you wanted to, later

so now i'm curious - what is the new medium you are using ?
