Is there anywhere on this board where carvers sell the equipment they no longer want or need?

nope...but we have talked about a used swap or sell thread....nothing so far. The problem may be to opening the door to a lot of spam sales on the site?

Local garage sales are the best when you find a good one, local flea markets, ads in the paper for estates or moving sales, ebay etc.....local carving clubs.....and sometimes the best...talk it up with friends that you are looking for carving tools.....

Dianna.... Proceed with caution on that venture. A used knife or a gouge can always be sharpened to get it back in shape but the cost of repair of a used woodburner could end up costing you more than if you had bought a new unit in the first place. Since you live practically down the street from SMWC's have you talked to Mac? You can get yourself started with a Colwood Detailer for under $100.00. You'll get a lot of opinions on this forum about the pro's and con's of Colwood products but I bought my Detailer from Mac three years ago, use it all the time, and, "knock on wood" it hasn't let me down yet. That little Detailer has more capacity than I'll ever need.
