i have been blessed to get some catawba wood, if you know what it is, it is light brown and light weight, but not uncarvable and a little harded than basswood.but i have carved it, you have to be carefull with it . dose anyone have any ideas on how to carve it easier.

It is also called Catalpa. It is best carved when it is fresh cut. If the wood is dry you can soak it in water for a few days before you start carving. When you are not carving on the piece always cover or bag the piece to keep in the moisture. Steve Brown Woodcarving |
