Default Gene Messer Indian

Well, I tried the Indian Girl by Gene, and well I took some liberites. After getting close to finishing, it looked more like an old woman than a young girl - LOL

So I decided to TRY to get more facial expression on the carving. Having Cherokee in my blood, I could not help but think of my Great Grandmother (100% Cherokee) and how she always looked sad and or angry. Last time I saw her was probably 40+ years ago, but I could still see her sitting on her chair.

Anyways here is what I came up with - still learning and have some cleanup and painting to do - but thought I would share what I have. Faces are so hard for me, AND the nose broke off - had to super glue it back on - afraid to take more off - still a little larger than I would like!

Sorry for poor quality pics - took with cell at work - good camera at home!

for looking!

(my appoligies to Gene for butchering his carving - LOL)

She looks pretty good to me Sixty Vette! I have to admit as many others have, it's difficult to carve a female carving...to make them look soft and femine...Men are just easy to carve...they look good rough and hard looking, so I fully understand where you coming from... But your little N.A. looks pretty good to me! Save carving to you!

Sixty_Vette, that is a first class lady carving. Well done. We all know it is more difficult to do the female face. You did very well. Carve on my friend.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I worked a little on the face and painted the piece over the weekend. Thought I would post a few pics of the finished project!

Hi Sixty,
Nice job on the carving, and the paint job really brought it together.
I like it.
