Default Footballing Toad

Here is my second carving attempt. It is a footballing toad made possible through the help from the Beginners and Caricature sections plus the Painting and Finishing section.

It is made from Jelutong with a Black Wattle base (from my front paddock)

Comments welcome

Pete

Nice job. My only thought would be that the ball might be just a few sizes larger in proportion the frog. I like the texture on the frog.

Thanks Don.

The ball caused me some problems. Do you mean the ball should be bigger or smaller. I thought a bit bigger but a few constraints interfered with that so I went with what I got because I doubted I could do much better at a second attempt at this stage of my career.

I was really nervous with a few things and had quite a few Oh #### moments but when putting it aside and coming back in a better frame of mind worked my way through most issues to a degree that I think I achieved a result as good as I could be expected to do if not better.

My problem now is for the next carving to improve I have to see what areas in this Toad need the greatest improvement. I am now trying to do a Black Miniature Dexter Cow on pasture standing next to a fence.

My problem is doing it so quickly after the Toad may see the same mistakes creeping in because my carving knowledge needs to go up a notch to do a better job. That is why I need you guys to help me point out areas to work on otherwise, if i do what I have always done, I will always get what I have always got.

Pete

Yes bigger. It looks like a softball rather than a soccer ball. Maybe have the other arm straight, if blank size is the issue.

Your right Don. The ball does need to be a bit bigger. Actually it was supposed to be a Rugby ball which is a bit like your American Football, oval shaped , but just a bit bigger in size, if I can remember what an American football looks like.

I'd like to see you dip a cane toad in epoxy glue, then dress it up!
Over here, we can buy tanned, cane toad leather pouches for guitar picks and whatnot..

So I take it that your toad is more of a Rugger-bugger than an Aussie Rules sort? He's alright.
