Default Flexcut Strop!

Can anyone tell me how to use the yellow chalk/crayon that came with the flexcut strop and beginner carving set, do you rub it on the strop before sharpening? Sorry for the dumb question, just not sure what it's for.
Thank you,
David

Hey David, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
You are correct, rub the compound onto the strop before honing / sharpening the tool.
It will polish the tool and remove small scratches.
Good Luck

Randy

David,

The compound can be applied to pretty much every nook and cranny of the strop.

I use the Flexcut strop to hone everything from knives, to gouges to the Dockyard micro tools.

The Flexcut strop's flexibility and portability should not be underestimated.

Should be in every carvers tool bag, if it isn't already.

The yellow stick acts like polising or rubbing compound. I normally strop about every 10 minutes of carving and give my knife 5 strokes on each side always pulling away from the cutting edege of course. There are also different grades of the compound. I also use one that is mixed in oil. It seems to cover the leather easier and sticks better for me. That just my 2 cents.

Thank you Randy, Bob and Ed.
Bob,
I bought the Deluxe starter carving set by Flexcut along with some other tools to get started, and I couldn't be happier. Glad I know what the yellow stick is for now though. Thanks again.

As the strop blackens from the finely distributed metal particles, partial cleaning is worth doing.
Use the side edge of a 6" mill file as a gentle scraper 4X. Reload with compound.

Ive got one, and yes... you add the compound to the strop... I have done it to the blade, but the result is just the same... It's best to the strop though! It's not a silly question either... The silly question is the one you ask your self when you are left wondering...... Curious about that fish in your avatar.... Rainbow? Searun Rainbow, Cutthroat...Salmon...??....??? Take care David.....
