Wow! That was different! At first, I thought......what a pretty stain! A carrot....who would'a thunk.....I think it's a fine job, Kev....but I do agree about the eyes. I have a lot of the same trouble, so you're not the Lone Ranger. Great job on that veggie, though....Bonnie

Firstly good job on your first attempt. Now use wood instead of carrots. Carrots are too soft and you will cut yourself easy because stop cuts dont work with vegetables. Get yourself a carving glove and a really good sharp knife to start with. It is always the dull knife that will cut you because you will have force it and that is when accidents happen. Get yourself a mentor or a good book and follow the instructions. All these things I didnt do and regret and have the scars to proove it. Not only from knifes and gouges but from the chainsaw as well. Eat, Sleep, Carve Practice practice practice you will only get better.
Good luck
Colin

Like to help but I never carved a carrot, so I don't know how the grain runs.

I bet you are a hit at a "veggie" party. Yes the eyes needs a little work but for a first time, you did great.Practice, practice, practice.

Great job
I never tried a carrot but i can see the advantage if you are stuck in the house you can eat the chips and shavings

I actually started peeling them for dinner while the wife was in work (i start back on monday) and was thinking of the tutorials i've seen here. Stop cuts, undercuts etc and just started carving away.
this site and wood carving can have a major effect on your life.....the wife won't let me peel veg again.....so a double winner from my point of view
