Default First time posting - NS Canada

Hello Carvers,
This is my first time posting on this site. I started carving woodspirits/heads in Oct '05 and been busy practicing since. I must be doing something right as they seem to be finding homes out there somewhere. As I get better, I may try selling a few to get more tools. I'm now enrolled in another level course to try my hand at female faces...not an easy task, the nose alone is taking me forever. I'll try to post a few of my attemps to get your feedback. Please be nice to this maritimer as I just started carving 3 months ago. Here's a couple to view.

Nice job! Welcome to the group. Your work is impressive, I love the detail around the nose and eyes. Hard to believe you have only been doing this for 4 months!

You will find a great group of folks here. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks for the complement...it will encourage me to keep going. Perhaps I should give credit to my instructor at "Carvers" - our local coffee shop and carving studio. Keith is a great instructor and has been carving in various areas throughout Canada I've been told.

The wood shown in the first run of photos is mostly white pine - very easy wood to carve with but knotty. My earlier carvings shown here are some form of popular but that's as much as I know - still green on my knowledge of wood types. Now that your humouring me - here's a few more pics. One is made with cherry tree wood - the pic does not do it justice as it was snapped up by a neighbor as soon as they viewed it. Carving is a real novelty for me so I think I'm going over board right now. I'll eventually slow down.

Hmmmmmmmm ......... I've been carving since 1988.
I don't post in the Beginner Forum and I don't carve 1/20 as fine as this.
Either I'm carving wrong or posting wrong.

Gee Whiz, I hope it's posting.

Three months?!? I'd have a conversation with any of these guys on the sidewalk and never know they were carved! You're a natural, especially with the eyes...and chins...and cheeks...etc!
Great work!

Welcome aboard Irishman, great work! A student of Keith's eh, say hello to him from me will ya, I didn't get down to the woodworking show in Moncton this year, was just too wore out. You're going to like it here, they are a great bunch of folks from all over and very helpful and encouraging. Good to see a Bluenoser aboard, and a very talented one at that.
