Based on the 5-minute wizard videos. I got a little annoyed of watching it on my iPod so once I got the gist of it I went off on my own. Any tips?

Hey Howie,
Nice lookin' wizard.
I know exactly what you're talking about with that iPod. I've watched mine until I'm just about cross-eyed.
What kind of finish are you going to apply?
Thanks for sharing your work.
Keep on keeping on.

Jim

That's a good start. You cuts look clean, that is a major plus. Just carve him a few more times, concentrating on making him round in the face, clean cuts, and maybe a little more detail in the beard. keep up the practice and improvement will occur.

Much, much better than my first 5-minutes wizard. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Safe and fun carving to you.

Howie! Great carving! Keep up the good work...practice, practice, practice...you'll be amazed at how much improvement you'll see in just a short period of time (even though your current project is very nice!!!)... Keep us posted on your latest carvings!!!

Howie,

I agree with everyone else, you are getting there. As Slow said try a little more rounding. on the facial features. I will be looking for the next project that you complete. I have a question for you. Did you get the 5 minute wizard done in 5 minutes. The first one I did I think took me about 2 1/2 hours. All I could think the whole time was "5 minutes, you got to be kidding me"
Keep up the good work.

Safe Carving and god Bless,

Mark

Thanks everyone - I've tried more of a cariacture head based on what I learned doing this (First try) and did try doing a bit more rounding. I have trouble getting rounded cheeks, etc. I find I take too much off and flatten my cuts. Tips on how to round them?

I also read something in reference to an 'arched' cut. Any tips on how to achieve this?
