Default First carving - small scoop

I carved this little scoop out of a piece of scrap wood I found - it was nice to carve, but I don't know what it is - any ideas? It seems to have more grain than basswood.
(my first attempt at adding an image, so we'll see if this works)
Thanks!

Oops - appears the image didn't take. Possibly review needed, as I'm new...

When you post, you will see a little paperclip above the edit window. When you click on that it opens a new little window. Click on the "browse" button for each image you (up to 4) want to post. You then click on "upload" and when your images are listed below that, click on the "close windw" and then come back to this window and, if you are finished with the post, submit the post and shazam, you have nice little thumbnails of your original image.

I hope this helps more than confuses.

Ed

Thanks for the instructions! Here's the pic...
A friend of mine said this looked a bit like a lappish Kuksa - which is a drinking cup traditionally carved from birch burl - used by Sami hikers. Google it - very interesting! This is much smaller than that, but certainly perked my interest into carving a Kuksa. Now if I can find arctic birch burl...

Hi Jennifer,

You did really well carving that scoop. I like the rings showing in the bowl.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm glad my instructions helped more than hindered. That's a neat little scoop you carved. The Kuksa sounds interesting, I'll have to Google it. You might take a Google for Welsh love spoons and try some of those, too.

Jennifer,

Very nice job. It looks like Pine to me. Now search the carvers galleries for "love spoons" for some very interesting concepts and challenges.

Thanks all for your comments - I'm off to the gallery for inspiration. If anyone has a suggestion on where to purchase/order birch burl would be appreciated! Or, another type of wood that would be long lasting/not subject to cracking - for a drinking vessel?
