Hi Here's my first carving. No body parts were harmed in the production of this beaver. It's a Haida Indian style beaver from basswood. All constructive comments welcome. I'm not sure if I'll paint it at this point. It now has two coats of blo. Last edited by Totem; 08-21-2008 at 11:44 PM. |

OH MY GOOOODNESS! I love this guy! While I am a firm believer in not painting wood and letting the grain speak for itself, I have to say I would paint him. The Black, reds, blues and whites of this type of art are so crisp. You have really inspired me! This is really fantastic. I can't wait to see if you paint it. Wait! I forgot to mention that he does look incredible the way he is! Just grand! He is a phenominal first carving! Painting him might add more definition, but there is no need. He is great just the way he is! Just great! Be proud of this guy for sure!

Hi Tot5em, That is one of the best first carvings I have seen. Everything about it is very well done. You should be proud of your work.

Thankyou so much. After my trip to Alaska I got inspired by the art of the Indians of the Pacific Northwest. Always have been actually. I wish I had a 60 foot redcedar log but I'll have to settle with smaller stuff at this point. Thanks again!Thank You |
