Default Fan Relief Carving

I am TOTALLY unskilled in carving but want to learn to carve a scallop shell as an accent on a piece of furniture I'm building. Can anyone point me to a source for a pattern some basic instructions and the carving tools needed to carve this design? Thank you for any help.

Here is a link to two must have books if you're interested in this style of carving.

Lots of pictures and instructions.

Wood Magazine, April 2000. I remembered there was something like that, and I did a quick search on their back issue index.

We've got an article on carving classic forms with Frederick Wilbur coming up in the next issue, and in Holiday 2004 #29 : 59-63 Bill Belise showed how to carve a shell/fan.
