Hi, In my book Carving the Civil War with Tom Wolfe, it tells me that I need an eye punch to use for the buttons for on the hat and his cote. Does anyone know where I can buy one? I can post a picture here of what it looks like if no one knows where to get it. The book also said their are differ sizes of it. |

Or you can use a nail set, back end of a ball point pen refill, and empty 22 shell, etc. etc. etc.

I think just about all of the suppliers of tools sells them. I posted a question here on the site a few weeks back asking about the eye punches I was thinking of buying a set Just about everyone that responded and had used them said they do not use them for the eyes but for buttons. You can also use a # 11 gouge or a veiner to make the buttons just gouge it in the wood and turn Wal Mart and Hobby Lobby also sell hole punches. They are for punching holes in leather but are cheap and will work for the buttons. You can also get some cheap hollow tubing and it will do the same thing.

Hi, I went to Walmart's website and couldn't find the eye punches. Does anyone know of any store that sells them? I don't want to buy them from a website because I don't want to pay shipping charges. Thanks again |

Like Plain Ed said, use a ball point pen, If it is small carving, use the point end and if bigger then the middle. Can't get any cheaper than that.
