i'm in St Catharines although Kitchener and Brampton aren't terribly far away. they are still far enough that i just won't have the time any time soon to go for a look. which is alright since the show is only a few weeks away. I am looking forward to it. and who knows i may manage to get something before then anyway...

The Kitchener Wood Show is March 12-13-14 and is always an excellent show. You'll be able to get tools there as well.

Hi Michael, I must agree with most. An exacto is NOT designed for carving and the blade will turn on you if the collet gets loose. I have used the Warren carving tool and it is a carvers tool but all tools have their purpose. A good stout wooden handled carving knife I have found to be the most versatile. There are many on the market in the 20 dollar range. Smokey Mountain woodcarvers has a good selection and they know about carving and will help you select a knife for your particular carving interest. Good luck and

Hi Michael, When I started carving in 1994 my major tools were gouges and exacto knives. With these simplie tools, I did some amazing carvings which were placed in the local galeries in town. Life happened and I didn't carve for many years but now I am back to carving and my exacto knives are a huge part of my carvings. I have bought additional tools, some good and some bad, but for detail work I continue to go back to my exacto tools. I think the most important factor is what tools you feel comfortable with. There is no law on what tool you use to do your carvings I know I will never give up my exacto tools because there are certain things I can do with no other tool. Happy carving.Maryann |

Heres a idea Michael .. if you like the exacto blades so much .. why dont you glue the baldes in a self made handle and just make a handle you would like to hold .. Gene
