Exclamation Enhancing Numbers carved in Mahogany

Can anyone please give me ideas as to ways of enhancing numbers to be carved in a Mahogany house number board , other than Gold ! and also the technic of which to do this , I am new to woodcarving and have only done one board in teak and enhanced the letters in black paint , but was never sure as to the correct method or materials .

If you carve the letters boldly and deeply, shadows should enhance their appearance. Any finish you apply will darken the letters, since the end-grain will soak up the finish and darken. I hope others can provide other ideas. Mike

Lots of ways to enhanse the letters, paint (oil or water base), or burn them. If the letters are deep enough, you don't need anything, the shadow will show them up fine.

Carve the numbers in relief.
