Smile Thank you Thor, I'm using 'Irish's' technique (e-project) for carving a cane top wood spirit. Mine aren't anywhere as good as her's but I'm learning with each one. I have tried to add some of my own idea's. I'd like to think that I can create woodspirits which become something of myself. Talking I guess woodspirits can be female also the ones I see are male. LOL
Merry Christmas,
Kathy

Kathy,
Don't give up on the idea of chain saw carving too quickly. Look at this site of Nancy Hemmings work:
http://www.zoskiacultus.uklinux.net/nansi/nansi.html
She can call her woman woodspirits anything she wants!
It makes me want to try my hand at a chainsaw as well. Be afraid....be very afraid.

Hi Thor, wow thank you for the link Nancy Hemmings work is fantastic. I've saved the link so I can return to it often. I just knew there had to be women out there chainsaw carving. She doesn't seem to limit herself to one subject but many. She does recommend you take a chainsaw safety course first.
Please let me know if you decide to give chainsaw carving a try.
Kathy
Did you see that bog oak fruit bowl she did?

Yes, Kathy, I saw the bowl. Awesome work!
She's got it in her blood. Her father was a professional carver and taught her how when she was younger. I looked at everything on her site for a long time.

I did mention to my husband last night that I would like to try chainsaw carving. I receive calls here at the gallery looking for chainsaw sculptures on a pretty regular basis. I don't know anyone who does it locally that does anything big.
He said "go for it" without even looking up.
The real challenge is how many tricks can an old dog learn?
oh, and the fact that I need a chainsaw.
A book featured in the December issue of WCI, "Art of Chainsaw Carving", is written by Jessie Groeschen, a chainsaw carver....I will look her up on the internet today. More scary inspiration!
Found it!: http://www.groeschen.com/

Hi Thor, WOW another excellent link for my favorites! Oh geez I love her work and hey that looks like a nifty chainsaw she uses. Did you figure out what brand? Given the way holds it gives me the idea that it might be not to heavy (could be wrong but...)
Thumbs Up Hey I say go for it too--I bet you'll do great! If there is a well there is a way and you have both. Can't wait to see what you do when you start chainsaw caving.
You go girl!
