Default How do you mount a figure to a base?

Okay. I've just finished my first complete carving in the round. It's from Bill Howrilla's Carving Golfers. The author says to drill a small hole in the base and a matching one in the figure's foot then connect the two with a dowel so that the figure can be easily removed from the base. Is this the normal, preferred method, or can you just glue the figure to the base? (Right now the golfer is just sitting on top of the base and is not attached.) Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Beth

That is the way a lot of the carvers do attach carvings to a base. Others glue, use screws, Bamboo skewers, just to name a few ways.

BTW, nice carving and base. Nicely painted

Hi Beth, I use small pieces of copper wire cut two about 1/2" or I have used 1/8" wood dowels.

I use brass rods similar to the previous post and set them in with a strong epoxy. So far no problems.
