My first two knives were a bench knife and a chip knife. Both are marked Solingen. Other than those two every knife I own has been made or modified by my own two hands. Since Parker knives weren't on the list I went with Other. |

My first knifes were ones my wife bought and I don't know the brand although they were good knifes. My son bought me two flex cut knifes one year for Christmas and I use those a lot. If I order a knife it will probably be from little shavers as I did get the dockyard tool set from them and it was excellent service and they have about everything I would buy. I have recently won two razor knives from thomp and I sure use those a lot for detailing they are great knifes and hold the edge better than any others I own.

What is the highest quality carving knife? I guess that goes along with what's your favorite knife but some people might have different answers for this. Which of these is the highest quality? If there are anymore feel free to list them. Ralph Long Flexcut Denny Razor Knives Lyons Drake Cape Forge Ferguson Helvie Kershaw Murphy Murray North Bay Forge Swedish Wells Warren Cutlery Two Cherries Diefenbacher Cariboo Blades Diobsud forge Also I have seen diobsud listed as people's favorite but where do you buy them?

Diobsud Forge (an outfit out of San Juan Island, WA) tools are no longer being made, from what I understand. It's too bad, too, since they fit well in the hand and they used quality steel. I've got a couple DF chisels that I use regularly. I know of only one store (here in Portland, OR) that still has a few.

My favorite detail knife was made by a man named Joe Werner. His other knives are excellent as well.

Hey Scooter ....I didn't know we'd lost Diobsud. Ouch - that hurts! I have a handful of their chisels and LOVE them.

I've used Lee Fergeson knives for years. I've tried just about all the others but Lee's are tops. Of course even his knives take a backseat to my $2.50 special utility model available in most hardware departments.

I own 4 of Lee's knives. If you contact Lee directly, he will grind the knife you want without the secondary bevel. Basically he smooths it out. Saves me a lot of work and the price is the same. His small detail knife is awesome but they are all great! Lee Ferguson Knives
