Default Cutouts and Roughouts

I was trying to find some information on cutting out patterns and I came across this thread..

Advice for newbie-Roughouts

In this thread, there is a discussion about roughouts and cutouts. I am a little confused on the difference between the two. Is one of them cut on a bandsaw and the other is not? If someone could please explain these two terms in further detail I would appreciate it. Thanks.

No matter how they are done, the main difference is that a cut out leaves you more wood to work with than a rought out. Usually a cut out is profile and front view band sawed out while a rough out is a 360 degree shape done on a special machine. Which one is best? All a matter of what you are looking for. I prefer neither because I get great enjoyment from just removing chips.

Ah, I think I'm beginning to see the light.

The way I have been doing mine is cutting the front and back, and then the left and right side on the bandsaw. I absolutely despise cutting it out on the bandsaw, and it seems to take forever. I am not sure if I am trying to do too much detail on it with the saw before carving or what. I think on my next one I'll try to leave a little more wood on and see how it goes from there. It sounds to me like I might enjoy making cutouts and carving from there than what I am currently doing.
