here is my fifth carving and second bottle stopper. Their are some postives in this. I was happy with the hat, although I had to work through some issues, but possibly because i have a rural background knowing what a cowboy hat looked like and felt on helped a great deal. The human face and i have some problems as with artwork. Fortunately i realized I have some friends who are quite good artists and they have been helping me get to the next level. Unfortunately they were too late for this little guy. I used a woodburning tool for the first time for the hair at the back of the head and also for the whiskers. I think that you did a great job on the hat. Nice job too in trying new things, talking to other artists' and always looking for new ways to advance yourself to the next level in carving. I think that way too many first-time carvers get themselves to one level and become complacent with their craft, become bored then give it up. Only a very, very few of us keep pushing and do the necessary homework and continuously putting ourselves outside our comfort zones to advance to that next level in carving. Looks like you're on that path. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Good job Pete. I thought Aussies turned up the right side of the hat? You're progressing nicely! Happy Carving!
