You're on the right track. You might want to check out my videos on carving a cowboy boot. Just go to my Blog listed below then on the right side look for the video link.

Yep - I second that motion. Lynn's videos are first class. Best carving instructions I've ever seen.

Schooner your boots look darn good! I like your idea of burning in some of the details but have to agree with the others above...you might attempt to thin out the top of the boot a little more and detail the pull loops just a bit more...otherwise you're certainly on the right track and they're going to be real nice when you finish and paint them! Be sure and post a few photos of them when finished and share them with us. Enjoy your new craft and continued safe carving to you!

Default Finished my lash la rue cowboy boot

Hey Guys

I don't know if you remeber my favorite cowboy way back when.
He rode a black horse, used a whip, 2 silver pearl handle guns, and wore
all black.

Lash LeRue was his movie name.
Some Facts: Born Alfred LaRue; lived: Jefferson Parish near New Orleans.
June 14, 1921–May 21, 1996
He was a popular western motion picture star of the 1940s and 1950s. He had exceptional skill with the bull whip. He was one of the first winners of the Golden Boot Award in 1983.

I when I finished this boot I thought of him.
Funny who is 70 yr. ol' brain works (sometimes . . . )

It's not the exact boots he wore; but nevertheless its my
crazy imagination that makes me carving that amazes me sometime.
Not bad for a guy who not been carving less than a year.

Tell me what you guys think ?

Wish I could've taken better pics ~ Oh well you get the idea.

Keep up the good work Schooner! Nothing wrong with cowboy boots! I've got a friend that lives up in East Tennessee. He was a member of our carving club up there. I've known him for about 6-8 years and I've never seen him carve anything but boots!.......

I didn't realize how small it was- that makes it way more challenging - Way to go!
