Thumbs up Re: Congrats Squarebriggs

I also just found Bob's article and enjoyed it greatly. I've also enjoyed the updates of Ryans carving adventures from time to time posted here on the message board which give me a lot of hope in the next generation in a day and age when it seems harder to find these little glimmers of hope. Bob is one man who has obviously found his new mission in life and proved what a person can do for the good, even after life altering events could have easily given him a reason to be bitter. Nice job Bob, you're definitely a good man!

Gee, thanks guys! I haven't recieved my own copy yet, so I have that to look forward to. Ryan comes over to work on his model on Friday evening, I'll be sure to pass on your regards to him. I am very fortunate to have such a great apprentice.

I must pass on this bit of news to you as well. I have taught just a few students over the past few years, and one of those gentlemen just passed on to his great reward a week ago. Dr. Charles Allan, a fine surgeon and model ship builder became my student when he retired from practicing surgery at age 74. He came to me as a kit builder and I had him building scratch models from original builders draughts within six months. Charles was a student all his life, loved to do research on historical figures as a hobby, built fablious dollhouses and had a great hand at painting too. He passed away at age 81, and will be sorely missed. He was a good friend.

Nice article and well deserved recognition for your efforts. Sorry about your friend, but thank you for reminding us we're never to old to learn and, hopefully, never too old to teach. Mike

Good article, Bob,
Anyone who has the patience and ability to teach carving is to be commended...otherwise carving would be dying instead of growing. Thank you,, Bob for taking the time and for allowing yourself to be featured in this story. Sorry to hear about your friend. It always hurts to lose a friend and especially one with whom you shared your love of carving.

Great article Bob. Nice to see our forum members highlighted. Several made this issue. Working with kids is a special calling and sounds like you have an able apprentice.
