A carving glove.

There are multiple threads on tool suggestions. Bottom line, it's a personal preference....you'll get about as many recommendations as there are carvers on the site!

We have a forum just for stick/cane carving here: Stick and Cane Carving - Woodcarving Illustrated Message Board You may want to find a book on cane carving. Usually there are many patterns and examples. Tom Wolfe has a few and I remember some from England that are well written and illustrated (sorry that I can't access the books due to the filter at work).

I agree with Mitchell about the glove. I also suggest starting with a GOOD knife. That's all I used when I first started carving.

Also, search the forum for beginner carving tools - you'll end up with quite a bit of advice and suggestions.

Hello and welcome, Ferrari. It's nice to have you here with us. Those will be nice stick toppers. Try doing an image search, then use Irfanview or another photoshop like program to make your own pattern. Get a good knife and glove.
