| | Carving simple eyes with knife Can anybody direct me to a site that shows how to carve simple eyes with only a knife. Four or five cuts for each eye. I have seen folks do this, but was not ready to learn the technique at the time.. Thanks Tom H |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife Thank you, Gene and Bob. I do not have the books, but I'll find them. As for the web sites I had them at one time, but due to a recent computer exorcism lost them. I guess I have no more excuses for not learning to carve simple eyes...Thanks again.. Tom H |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife Check out page 96 of the Fall 2006 issue Wood Carving Illustrated. Jan Oegema has a quick and easy folk art eye. Calls for a knife and a #11 gouge but you probably only need the knife. |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife Again, thanks Bob...just tried several on Jans techniques. I need much more practice...One of the problems that I have is that I am still carving too small. I am attempting to carve eyes that are about 3/16 to 1/4 of an inch across. I have some carvings that I picked up at the Dayton show that have the small eyes carved; so I know it can be done. Will just take more practice. Thanks again Tom H |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife "Just Carving" & "Old Crow"... I just wanted to add my thanks also. I've spent many, many, hours on-line looking for nifty tutorials just like the URL's that you provided and I still didn't have two or three of those listed. You can never view enough. Someone always has a slightly different approach or presents it in a slightly different manner.... and very often it's just a subtle difference in presentation that brings about clarity of the technique. |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife Rick Ferry has a very effective eye-carving tutorial. Easy to undersand and put in use.
If you want really simplke eyes, a chip carving technique may be worth looking into. Simply cut a triangle with one slightly rounded side (side of the eyeball) then do the same again on the other side of the eyeball. Remove the chips and you have an eyeball. Crude, but effective. |

| | Re: Carving simple eyes with knife Another way is to carve Diamonds and on the inside of the diamonds is the deepest cut so as to round out the eye. You can make the diamond as big as you want the eye. then go from there to make eyelids and brows.
