I carved "My First Beginner Pencil" made by Ticonderoga. I don't remember the size, but they were quite a bit larger then standard pencils. I got them from Walmart, sold as 2 packs. Hope that helps

Bab, sadly the pencils you are looking for are no longer produced. My wife spent an entire day on the phone with pencil manufacturers trying to find them and no joy. Seems like they are no longer used in schools, and the ones that you can find are made of cedar instead of the plastic that carved so well. You can carve the cedar ones, but the result with the wood burner is not the same.

I found them at a local Teachers supply store here in VA. They had boxes of the red or yellow ones for sale either as individual pencils or in bulk. They were made from cedar and some carved better than others. Good Luck on the quest, wh

Just following up on the large size pencils. I have had my daughter and all her Longhaul Flight Attendant friends on the lookout for large pencils all over the world for over a year now.

Remember, I am in Australia, and I have not seen them for many years, not that i have been looking for them. However, my daughter was in L.A last week and came across some larger pencils in a out of the way Dollar Store. I was just given them today.

I tend to think they are a bit thinner then the ones I can remember many, many years ago when my kids were in the early years of school.

But these pencils have some information on them that you may find helpful. The diameter of them is about 9/16 inch. Maybe somebody can give me the diameter of the ones you guys are looking for.

The brand on the pencils is;

Greenbrier International Inc
Chesapeake. VA. 23320

127929-06695-001-1108

The overall length is 14 inches.

Even if these are a bit thin maybe somebody might be able to follow them up to see if they have a larger diameter ones.

By the way it says that the pencils are made inThailand and are caled Christmas Jumbo pencil with sharpener. it appears that large number I gave after the address is actually the barcode. I think my daughter paid $1 each for them.

Pete

Hi Star thanks for the info on the pencils.
The "My First Ticonderoga" pencils are about 3/8" in diameter as compared to a "std" pencil at 1/4" diameter.
They are found here at Wal Mart and Office Depot and most teacher supply stores.
