Default Carving Protection

Since I recently cut myself I think I will need another cut-resistant glove. I have one polar-knit glove that cost $25. I am going to buy some stuff from Ralph Long and remembered that he sells gloves and tape. Does anyone know how good the eavy weight kevlar gloves he sells are? I cut myself through a reasonably thick leather glove and still had a pretty serious cut. Also if I get a glove is it worth getting protective tape also?

This is where I got my polar knit glove that has stood up to many slips.
Cut Resistant Gloves.* These gloves are made of a Kevlar type material and are extremely lightweight!

hey there,
Sorry about the cut. The gloves are cut resistant but not cut proof. If you want something closer to cut proof look at Hexarmor or turtleskin.
Hope you heal soon,
Dan

As said, the gloves are cut resistant and not cut proof. I wear two gloves, on of the spectra wire gloves as in the video and one of the yellow- blue kevlar dot gloves over that. I have learned to carve that way and really like it along with my thumb guard tape. If you are cutting yourself often ( I don't think you said that ) but if so, take a look at your cuts you are making and even with a glove make sure your making safe cuts. Safe carving too you!

I noticed that hexarmor and turtleskin sold a lot more than just simple cut-resistant gloves. So, which gloves by hexamor and turtleskin are good for caving?

It looks alot like the of that I use. My only question is how does it compare to Hexarmor and turtleskin?

I noticed on the turtleskin website that they don't say what their CSE rating is. The gloves at hexarmor are rated a 5. Are Hexarmor gloves better?

I use one purchased from Mr. Long.... like the one from Woodcraft listed above.

I also put the tape on my right hand thumb for protection during "paring" cuts. I also have a well-worn glove that is made from the coated wire. It works well, but can be uncomfortable at times (long carving). I put extra tape on this glove on the index finger for extra protection - mostly because it's worn.

Even with a glove, you must still practice safe cutting with your tools.

There is a thread somewhere here where someone tested all of the types of gloves. Can someone list what it was?

What is the ISEA/CE? Can someone tell me what each rating means. These are the gloves that seem good. Can someone tell me which would be best.

NXT series
Level Six Series Liner 9007
SteelLeather™ VII
TenX Threesixty
Level Six Series 9003
Level Six Series 9010

Since I have only been carving a short while I don't know where you want to have the best protection. I am not so sure that the NXT series is good since it uses tru-shield instead of Superfabric/hexarmor. Also the glove has either top, bottom, or half of the bottom and top with high level cut-resistance and the rest with only 2 out of 5 protection. Also is it a good idea for a carver to have a apron? If it is where do you get one?
