Default Carving a missing eye?

I want to do a carving of Odin on a staff like a woodspirit. Only problem is I've no idea how to do his missing eye. Can anyone help?

Try a drawing of one eye open and the other one closed like in sleeping.
If this old memory severs me he trade it for a sip from the wisdom well or something like that. So, the eye lid would be close like.
Hope I have helped.

Here ya go! I did a search on Odin Images and came across this gem!

Yahoo! Image Detail for www.lokis-mythologie.de/bilder/bilder%20g%F6tter/odin15.jpeg

You will love it! What a wealth of images to oogle! I especially love the one of him in the tree...where he conceived the Ogham Alphabet and the first image of he and the woman. I wonder who she is? Someone of significance I am sure...hmmm...
But anyway...lots of different views on how artist dealt with the eye. Some covered it or hid it, but Odin would not have been bashfull or vain IMO of course. So, if I were to carve him, I would leave one eye opened wide and firce, but the other just a lazier version of the first with no ball, just a sunken in version of the one. Good luck!

Keoma, Thanks for the sites...all of them! I enjoyed looking at them, and got many many ideas. So much to try, and less and less time to try them..
Thanks again,

Tom H

Lovely find Keoma! Thanks

The woman in the pics is Brynhild, a Valkrye who disobeyed Odin. He enchants her with a 'sleep-thorn' so that she sleeps until woken by Sigurd. She teaches him magic and he swears an oath to marry her. See the saga Sigrdrifamal for the full story

He did actually hide it when he went abroad in the world, according to the sagas. He wore a wide, floppy-brimmed hat with the brim pulled down on one side so he wouldn't be recognised. I haven't figured out how to do that either though
