Default Carving a dome with flat chisels

A newbie question.

Ive decided to tackle an exercise from the Chris Pye book called the Guilloche Moulding. to carve the domes in the centre of the moulding he recommends using a gouge to make plunge cuts and then use rolling it over to form the dome. Of course and as usual I dont have a chisel the size of the diameter of the dome. How are these domes achieved with a straight edges chisel? I have knives and smaller diameter gouges.

Thanks brains trust!

Roll the chisel over and through the cut. Make smaller and smaller cuts as you go. (flat chisel)
You will still have some facets from the cuts, but they can become very tiny and hard to see.....just like the ball in the cage. Keep rounding the piece of wood until it looks like a smooth round ball.
